What Precisely are Dedicated Servers?

When we talk about hosting web servers, there are 3 main categories - hosting servers, VPS (private virtual hosting servers) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting web servers host numerous customers and hence the resources per account are restricted, VPS offer more server configuration liberty, but also influence other Virtual Private Servers on the hardware node if utilized heedlessly, and dedicated servers give you the independence to do everything you want without messing with anyone else.

Why would you need a dedicated servers?

Dedicated servers are traditionally much more expensive than shared hosting servers or virtual private hosting servers. Why would anyone, then, use them? The answer is very simple. If your company has a resource-requiring site, or simply has very exact server configuration requirements, the most reasonable option would be a dedicated servers. For someone who is willing to invest in security and reliability, the greater price is of no importance. You are given full server root access and can utilize 100% of the dedicated hosting web server's system resources without anyone else utilizing these system resources and interfering with your web sites.

Hardware specifications

The majority of website hosting corporations, incl. us at -Iclick2- Web Hosting and Cloud Service, provide several different hardware configurations you can select from according to your needs. The configurations offer different varieties of processors, a different number of cores, different RAM and hard disk sizes and different web traffic allowances. You can pick a web hosting Control Panel, which is a handy graphical user interface if you would like to use the dedicated servers for website hosting purposes solely and prefer not to resort to an SSH client for all the changes you will be making. We provide three types of web hosting CP software - Hepsia, DirectAdmin and cPanel.

The hosting Control Panel of your preference

If you are a self-assured Linux user (our dedicated servers are running on Linux or other Unix-based Operating Systems), you could administer your dedicated servers through an SSH terminal only. That, however, could be inconvenient, especially if you want to give complete server root access to somebody else who has less technical expertise than yourself. That is why having Control Panel software installed is a smart idea. The Hepsia hosting CP user interface that we offer does not give you full root-level access and is mostly appropriate for somebody who runs a lot of web pages that swallow plenty of system resources, but wants to manage the web sites, databases and email mailboxes through a user-friendly web hosting CP. The DirectAdmin and cPanel hosting CPs, on the other hand, give you full server root access and offer three access levels - root, reseller and user. If you intend to resell web hosting packages rather than using the dedicated servers only for yourself, you should pick one of these two.

Server monitoring and backup services

Last but not least, there is the issue of monitoring the dedicated servers and of backing it up. In the event of a predicament with your web server, like an unresponsive Apache or a downtime, it is good to have some sort of monitoring system activated. Here at -Iclick2- Web Hosting and Cloud Service the system administrators monitor all dedicated servers for ping timeouts, and, if you order a Managed Services upgrade, they monitor the separate services on the dedicated servers as well. Backups are also an additional feature - the web hosting services provider offers you data backups on our own backup servers. You could select a kind of RAID that would allow you to store the same data on 2 disk drives as a protective measure in case of a hard disk drive failure, or in case someone whom you have given full server root privileges deletes something by accident.
